The artLAB Gallery is proud to present To Here Knows When, the final exhibition by the 4th year Studio Arts Practicum class of 2025. This exhibition marks the culmination of our time in the program—a reflection of years spent experimenting, refining, and discovering our artistic voices.

Each work represents a distinct perspective, yet together they form a collective narrative of growth and exploration. Through a range of media and approaches, we’ve navigated questions of identity, process, and meaning, allowing our practices to evolve organically.

To Here Knows When is more than a conclusion—it’s a statement of where we’ve been and where we hope to go. We invite you to engage with the works, to sit with the questions they pose, and to join us in this moment of transition and expression.

Over the spring reading week, our class immersed within the heart of Oaxaca, a city and state of Mexico rich in people, culture, art, and food. The valley of Oaxaca is renowned for its diverse and artistic culture: murals and wood-block prints adorn buildings, vibrant markets beckon you from the streets, and the unique gastronomy of Oaxaca’s local dishes such as mole, chapulines (grasshoppers), and quesillo draw visitors from everywhere. During our time, we were exposed to the many Indigenous art forms of the valley, from the painted wood figurine Alebrijes to the natural dyes of the cochineal bug. We explored the ancient settlements of Monte Albán and Mitla, the vast landscapes of Hierve el Agua, took in storied museums, and toured the flora and fauna of the city’s botanical garden.

After exploring the unique beauty of the city and surrounding areas, we created this exhibit to honour the city and everything we learned. Through photography and a variety of other artifacts, we hope to showcase the experience captured by a collection of works entirely unique to our cameras, our minds, and our hearts. We invite you to immerse yourself in the variety of Oaxaca’s landscapes and culture through our art and photography capturing an ounce of the magic we experienced during our stay.

Con Cariño,
